For each year’s Festival, one performing group is selected to be the Ensemble-in-Residence. The selected group performs a Feature Concert concluding the Festival including the premiere of a piece written for them by that year’s Composer-in-Residence, works selected from the International Score Call, and additional pieces of the ensemble’s choosing. The Ensemble-in-Residence also participates in an open rehearsal/reading of works by emerging composers during the Composers Workshop during the Festival.

WCFH selects professional artists who inspire the next generation with their example of creativity, collaboration, and community.

The Ensemble-in-Residence typically receives a stipend between $2,000 and $3,000. When made possible by grant funding, this stipend may be increased. Travel costs are not covered; however, WCFH provides housing with local hosts when feasible.

Performers who would like to be considered for a future Festival can fill out our Ensemble-in-Residence Application.  Applications are accepted year-round but must be received by January 1st to be considered for the following three years. Ensembles who are not selected are eligible to re-apply after the third year. Applications are reviewed by a panel, typically comprising two composers and one performer.
