The Women Composers Festival of Hartford continues its annual tradition of celebrating the diversity of women’s music with six engaging concerts across the Greater Hartford area. Featuring Virginia-based composer Dr. Judith Shatin as this year’s composer-in-residence, the festival includes performances of historical and living women composers held at The Hartt School, Capital Community College, Central Connecticut State University, Trinity College, Mandell JCC of Greater Hartford, Center Church, and the Unitarian Society of Hartford.
2012 Composer-in-Residence: Dr. Judith Shatin
Dr. Shatin, a composer of “highly inventive music on every level; hugely enjoyable and deeply involving with a constant sense of surprise” (The Washington Post), is prominently featured on festival events. An advocate for contemporary music, she directs the Virginia Center for Computer Music, which she founded at the University of Virginia in 1987. As composer-in-residence, she is speaking at The Hartt School’s Institute for Contemporary American Music, Central Connecticut State University’s Music Forum, Capital Community College, and Trinity College.
